City of the Day: Toujane, Tunisia

Population: ~11,000 (estimate 2023) ; Toujane is a Berber Matmata mountain village in the south of Tunisia

DAILY PRAYER FOCUS

Toujane is a small mountain village in southern Tunisia. It is famous for the traditional, hand-woven carpets that the women of Toujane have made for generations. These carpets are beautiful, but in this age of mass-production, it is harder and harder for the families of Toujane to survive economically. Ask that the Father would provide for the people in this village, and that they would find His ultimate provision, Jesus Christ.

We know he sees each person, male and female, young and old and cares about what they feel and think and do and need. Please ask that He cares for each one of them well and that they see His care and know He is the God who Sees them and knows Him…that their names are written on His hands.

For the Many Still in Darkness

1 Sam 2:8
He raises up the poor from the dust; he lifts the needy from the ash heap to make them sit with princes and inherit a seat of honor. For the pillars of the earth are the LORD’s, and on them he has set the world.

_{Lord Jesus, You came and ministered to the poor and the helpless. Please help these people in this village and others like it. Provide for their physical needs! Help them to see Your Father as a loving Heavenly Father that cares about them and loves them and help them not to overlookor miss His ultimate Provision, You… Help them to see Johavah Jairah – the God that provides – not for temporal needs, but our eternal need – salvation!}

For the Few, if any, that Have Seen the Light

John 4:28-30
“Then, leaving her water jar, the woman went back to the town and said to people, “Come, see a man who told me everything I ever did. Could this be the Messiah?” They came out of the town and made their way toward him.”

_{Pray for God’s miraculous seeing of people to be translated into wanting others to know this God and His love for them too!}

For the few taking, (or who will take) the Light into the Darkness

John 10:16
And I have other sheep that are not of this fold. I must bring them also, and they will listen to my voice. So there will be one flock, one Shepherd.

_{Ask that God will send His people to this town that would really know Him and listen to the Good shepherd as He pursues His sheep.}

DAILY PRAYING FOR A MOVEMENT

When we pray for a movement, yes, we are praying for families and groups and cities and whole people groups! But the God we know also pursues individuals, and knows our inner workings so intimately. The familiar Psalm 139 reminds us that he created us and knew us before we were born…and also has every day we’ll live written in His book. While this may not seem surprising anymore in Western Christianity, it is a shocking truth in this region of the world. They know much about the Creator, Almighty God who is all powerful and Holy, but they know very little if any of the God who is near, who came to earth and bears their burdens. The true God is Father and knows not only the names of His children but everything about them (Luke 12:7). Please pray that each heart would be captured by this amazing Father, and that the news would spread to those around them because this kind of love simply cannot be kept to oneself.
